On a short lil' vacay

Sorry I haven't been posting as much as I used to. Everything has been pretty hectic. My finances are pretty much on auto pilot and this third check of May is going into savings. Right now I am in Costa Rica enjoying a little rest and relaxation. It is so beautiful here, and very very peaceful. I will write more about it when I get back.

On my way to Panama

I am sitting here at Newark International Airport because I missed my 8:30 am flight. I am here to until 4:30 which is when the next flight to panama leaves.

Oh well. I brought $400.00 in spending money and one major credit card, however I did also buy a bunch of clothes for the trip. My posting is going to be sporadic over the next few day.

On a different note, I can't believe I paid $7.95 to use the Internet here. That bites!!!

Saving money while traveling part 2

last night I researched places where I could travel and still get a good exchange rate for the dollar. I found a great article on Conde Nast Traveler.com that named some excellent places to travel. I narrowed my list down to places where the exchange rate was better than average and also would be places that I would really like to go to.

Here is my list

1. Barbados
2. Curaco
3. St. Kitts/Nevis
4. Egypt
5. Costa Rica

I then searched for hotels through the chain that a work for that were close to the airport and had the employee discount available. After narrowing it down I went to tripadvisor.com and read reviews of my top choice hotels.

So.... June 24-June 28 of 2009 I will be in San Jose, Costa Rica!

Price of a hotel room at a very beautiful luxury hotel for all 4 nights with taxes and fees 321.24!!!!!

being able to travel and just worrying about finding the best possible price for airfare..............

PRICELESS!!!!

Can you still save money while traveling?

2009 will be my year! My year to travel that is. I refuse to spend another year just traveling to places in the mid atlantic states. One of my favorite bloggers Small Budget, Big Style has a great post about timing and patience especially for us in our twenties, and she talks about how she would love to travel to exotic locales but there are so many other things on the agenda that she has to do first. I totally agree with her but I feel like some things require significant planning and that is what I plan to do. So even though its August I am planning for a very special trip to Naples, Florida which I will be taking in April (i know i will need some r&r from my students around that time) and another trip next august that will be outside the United States.

I am thinking that I probably won't go to Europe in August because my dollars won't go far but maybe someplace in central/south America or the Caribbean where I can get my dollar to stretch. I will probably be able to get a pretty good discount for hotel thanks to my employee discount, but my question is:

What are some ways that I can save money while traveling?
